The season for van life in Finland is June to August, and September in the north. That is when the roads are clear, the ferries run their full timetables and the days are absurdly long. May and September work in the south. From late October to April the whole country is a winter destination rather than a campervan destination, and travelling then means a heated van, winter tyres and an honest look at what minus 20 does to a water system.

The year by region: how it feels, how warm, how wet
BestWorkableToo hotCold or wetTop figure: average daily high. Below it: average rainfall for the month.
The mosquito season is the thing visitors underestimate. It runs through the Finnish summer and peaks in July, and it is at its worst exactly where people want to be: the lake shores, the bogs and the fells of Lapland. Head nets and a screen door are not an eccentricity here. The compensation is late August and September, when the first frosts clear the insects and the autumn colour, ruska, turns the north orange for two or three weeks. For many drivers that is the best fortnight of the Finnish year.
