Food and shops
Sunday is the day to plan around. The national tourism organisation's own guidance says grocery shops run 07:00 to 22:00 except on Sundays, when most do not open at all. Other shops keep roughly 09:00 to 21:00 through the week, and banks and post offices are weekdays only, 08:00 to 20:00. A Saturday shop covers a Montenegrin weekend. A Sunday arrival in a small town does not.

Where to shop
- Best value: Voli or IDEA.
- Full range: A large Voli.
- Camper access: Voli hypermarkets outside resort centres are easiest with a campervan.
Stocking the campervan
- Shop on Saturday. Assume Sunday is shut unless you have seen that specific shop open.
- Voli and Idea are the two chains with real national coverage. Everything else is a minimarket.
Eating out without getting it wrong
- Fish is usually priced by the kilogram, as it is all down this coast. Ask what the whole fish weighs before it goes on the grill.
- Njeguši is a lunch stop, not a detour. The village on the Kotor to Cetinje road is where the ham and the cheese come from.
What the shopping week looks like
| Day | Grocery shops | Banks and post offices |
|---|---|---|
| Monday to Friday | 07:00 to 22:00 | 08:00 to 20:00 |
| Saturday | 07:00 to 22:00 | Closed |
| Sunday | Most do not open at all | Closed |
| Public holiday | Expect closed, on both days of it | Closed |
Holidays in Montenegro run for two days, so a Monday holiday means the shops have been shut since Saturday evening by the time you notice. The four national holidays are the first two days of January, of May, the 21st and 22nd of May and the 13th and 14th of July.
