Cards and contactless payments are widely accepted, but keep some cash for village bars, markets, laundries and service points. When a terminal or cash machine offers conversion into your home currency, choose euros and let your card provider handle the exchange.
Fuel, toll and campsite prices change too quickly to make a fixed national price useful. Check fuel on Spain's official Geoportal before a long leg, compare the free autovía with any tolled route in your navigation app, and confirm the full campsite price for your vehicle, occupants, electricity and season before booking.

Avoid unnecessary fees
- A cash machine must show its fee before you confirm the withdrawal. Cancel and try another if the charge is poor.
- Your own bank or card provider may add a separate withdrawal or foreign-exchange fee.
- Decline dynamic currency conversion: choose the amount in EUR, not your home currency.
Control road-trip costs
- Use the government's live fuel map to compare nearby stations. Motorway sites are often less competitive.
- Check whether a route marked AP is tolled. A parallel A road may be free with little time difference.
- Ask whether electricity, showers and extra occupants are included in a campsite or private-area rate.
