The Belgian van season runs from May to the end of September, and that is most of it. The whole country sits in the same maritime climate, so there is no warm corner to escape to in winter. What does change across the map is height. The Ardennes are 400 to 600 metres up and read like a different country on the strip below: Bastogne's warmest month averages 21 °C against 24 °C at Liege, and its January daily maximum is 4 °C.

The year by region: how it feels, how warm, how wet
BestWorkableToo hotCold or wetTop figure: average daily high. Below it: average rainfall for the month.
The colours are our judgement about each region as a whole, crowding included, which is why July and August read as merely acceptable on the coast while the temperature says otherwise. The figures are published Royal Meteorological Institute normals for the station named in each row, 1991 to 2020, except Bastogne, which is 1981 to 2010. That is the only row on a different period and it is flagged rather than hidden.
