The Czech motorway vignette is fully digital and tied to your number plate. There is no sticker and nothing to put on the windscreen: you buy it online at edalnice.gov.cz, enter the plate, and cameras and patrol cars read it. It applies to any vehicle with at least four wheels up to 3.5 tonnes maximum permitted weight. On the price list valid from 1 January 2026 a year is 2,570 Kč, thirty days 480 Kč, ten days 300 Kč and one day 230 Kč. Driving a tolled section without one risks a fine of up to 20,000 Kč.

The vignette, and what catches foreign vans

  • LPG does not get the eco price. The official price list says so in as many words: the half rate is for CNG, LNG and biomethane only. This is the single most common mistake made about it.
  • The vignette is tied to the registration plate, not to the driver or a windscreen. Changing plates means telling the fund, not buying again.

Over 3.5 tonnes

  • A vehicle over 3,500 kg maximum permitted weight is a vozidlo v systému elektronického mýtného and pays by the kilometre.
  • It needs an electronic on-board unit, which is not transferable and is registered to one specific vehicle.

Low emission zones

  • The clean air act gives a municipal council the power to declare a nízkoemisní zóna, set which emission categories may enter, and charge a low emission fee for it.
  • The power has existed for years and has been debated in Prague repeatedly. Published sources did not show a zone of the western European kind operating against foreign vans as of September 2026.

Fuel, winter and the rules that differ

  • Winter tyres are conditional, not calendar based. The requirement applies from 1 November to 31 March, but only when there is snow, ice or frost on the road or the weather makes it foreseeable during your drive.
  • Tread depth: at least 4 mm, and 6 mm over 3,500 kg, where the requirement is on the permanently driven axles rather than all wheels.

There is no permitted blood alcohol level for a driver in Czechia. The traffic act prohibits driving after drinking, full stop, rather than above some limit. In a country where a pub evening is the normal evening, this matters most the morning after. Moving the van 200 metres to a better spot is still driving.
