Greek tolls are charged at barriers and they are charged by height, not by weight. There is no vignette. You pay at each plaza, in cash or by card, and the category that matters is the 2.20 metre line: a vehicle over 2.20 metres tall drops into category 3, which on the A1 runs around two and a half times the car rate at every barrier. Almost every campervan is over that line. Athens to Thessaloniki cost a car 36.70 euros across eleven barriers in 2026.

Speed limits outside built-up areas, under the Road Traffic Code
| Vehicle | Motorway | Expressway | Other roads |
|---|---|---|---|
| Passenger vehicle | 130 km/h | 110 km/h | 90 km/h |
| With a light trailer | 100 km/h | 90 km/h | 80 km/h |
| With a trailer | 90 km/h | 80 km/h | 80 km/h |
| Goods vehicle up to 3,500 kg | 100 km/h | 90 km/h | 80 km/h |
| Goods vehicle over 3,500 kg | 85 km/h | 80 km/h | 80 km/h |
The code's table has no motorhome row, so which line applies depends on how your vehicle is registered at home and what it weighs. In built-up areas the limit is 30 km/h unless the road has at least two marked lanes in each direction or a central reservation, in which case it is 50. On unpaved roads outside built-up areas it is 40.
Toll categories, and what they cost at one A1 barrier in 2026
| Category | What it covers | Pelasgia barrier, A1 |
|---|---|---|
| Category 1 | Two and three wheelers | €2.90 |
| Category 2 | Any vehicle up to 2.20 m high, with or without a trailer | €4.10 |
| Category 3 | Two or three axles, over 2.20 m high. Most campervans and motorhomes sit here. | €10.20 |
| Category 4 | Four or more axles, over 2.20 m high | €14.30 |
Ferries are part of the road network here
- Vehicles are priced by length, and sometimes by height, on top of a passenger ticket for everybody aboard. Measure with the bike rack, the tow bar and the roof box on, because the ramp measures what you drive up it.
- On the big domestic routes a car up to 4 metres was reported at 70 to 120 euros above the passenger fare in 2026. A longer van costs more again.
Fuel
- Diesel ran about 2.14 to 2.35 euros a litre in mid September 2026, with a national average near 2.19. Petrol was similar.
- Stations are attended, and many rural ones close in the evening and on Sunday. Do not run a tank down in the mountains on a Saturday.
Parking and town driving
- Blue lines mean paid parking, usually via an app or a kiosk ticket. Yellow lines are loading or residents.
- Greek town centres are narrower than the map suggests. Park on the edge and walk in, which is also the only sane approach in Athens and Thessaloniki.
The Rio to Antirrio bridge across the Gulf of Corinth prices by height too, and its line is two metres. A passenger vehicle under 2 m paid 15.90 euros in 2026. Anything over 2 m, including a car towing a caravan, paid 24.70. The ferry alongside it is slower and cheaper.
