Weather
Romania's van season runs from May to early October, and it runs differently at every altitude. The country holds three climates at once: a continental plateau inside the Carpathian arc, the mountains themselves, and a dry, almost Mediterranean east around the Delta and the Black Sea. Tulcea averages a daily maximum of 30 °C in July and August on 1991 to 2020 normals. Suceava in Bucovina averages 26 °C.

The year by region: how it feels, how warm, how wet
BestWorkableToo hotCold or wetTop figure: average daily high. Below it: average rainfall for the month.
Every figure in the strip is a mean daily maximum and a monthly rainfall total for the station named in the row. Sibiu, Suceava, Tulcea and Constanța are on 1991 to 2020 normals. Brașov and Baia Mare are on 2014 to 2026 normals, because those are the only published series those two stations have, so they are not directly comparable with the other four and run a little warm against a thirty year average.
The mountain year
- June to September is the window, and June is the greenest and the wettest. Sibiu, Brașov and Suceava all peak for rain in June.
- The high roads open late. The Transfăgărășan opened on 12 June in 2026 and the Transalpina on 29 May. Neither is a spring plan.
The lowland and Delta year
- May, June and September are the comfortable months in the Delta, on the coast and around Bucharest.
- July and August are hot. Tulcea averages 30 °C and Bucharest Băneasa 30.4 °C in July, with no shade to speak of on the plain.
