The currency is the Turkish lira, and prices in it age in a way eurozone prices do not. On 18 September 2026 the central bank's selling rate was 55.90 lira to the euro. A year earlier, on 18 September 2025, it was 48.86. That is about 14 percent more lira to the euro in twelve months, and it is why every number on this page carries the day it was true.

Cash, cards and the border
- Carry some euros in cash for the crossing. If your green card does not cover Turkey you buy a policy near the customs post, and that is not the moment to be hunting for a machine.
- There is no limit on the currency you may bring in. UK government advice says you may not take out Turkish lira worth more than 5,000 US dollars, and other currency above that must be declared to Turkish customs.
Tipping
- Round up, rather than calculate a percentage. Leaving the small change in a lokanta is normal and enough.
- In a sit-down restaurant with table service, around 10 percent is the usual gesture. Leave it in cash.
The exchange rate, tolls and pump prices come from state or fuel-distributor publications, while the campsite figure is Mandi Camping's dated 2026 rate. The food prices are crowd-sourced Numbeo averages rather than official figures. In a currency moving this fast, treat every amount as a dated guide and check the current price.
