Norway has one season for van life and it is June to August. That is when the mountain roads are open, the ferries run their summer timetables and the north is worth the drive. May and September are the shoulders, good in the south and the fjords and chancy in the mountains. From October to April most of the country is a winter destination rather than a campervan destination, and several of the best roads are physically shut.

The year by region: how it feels, how warm, how wet

The bands describe how a month feels in a van, not how interesting it is. The northern lights season in Tromsø runs through the dark months, when the strip is at its coldest, and people do drive vans up for it. That is a winter expedition with a diesel heater and proper tyres, not a summer trip in colder clothes.
