The Algarve and southern coast are strongest from autumn to spring. Summer is busier and much hotter inland. The Atlantic keeps the west coast cooler, but strong wind and ocean conditions can make exposed stops uncomfortable even when the air temperature looks mild.
Northern Portugal is wetter and works best in late spring and summer. The high interior can freeze or receive snow in winter, while summer heat and rural fire danger may close roads or restrict outdoor cooking. Check IPMA weather warnings and the daily rural fire-danger map before remote travel. Madeira is mild year-round, but altitude changes conditions quickly.
