Safety and health
Slovenia is one of the easier countries in Europe to travel by road. The usual van-life worry, theft from a parked vehicle, is a smaller problem here than on the Mediterranean coasts, and the ordinary precautions cover it: nothing visible through the windows, arrive before dark, and prefer a busy, occupied car park to an empty scenic layby.

What works
- Arrive before dark so you can see the place you picked and who is already there.
- Nothing visible through the windows. No bags, no laptop on the table, no cab clutter.
Health, pharmacies and numbers
- 112 is the single emergency number, in any language, and it reaches mountain rescue as well as ambulance and fire.
- Police are 113. Live traffic and road conditions are 1970.
Slovenia's neighbours treat this differently, and a trip here usually touches at least one of them. Our guides to wild camping in Austria and wild camping in Croatia cover the rules on either side of the border.
