Food and shops
Maxima, Iki, Rimi, Norfa and Lidl cover the country, and between them they reach almost every town. The pattern for a van is familiar: the big out-of-town Maxima XX, Rimi Hypermarket or Norfa has room to park and the full range, while a small Iki or a village shop may be the only option for the next half hour. Hours are long and Sunday is an ordinary trading day, with one large exception.

Where to shop
- Best value: Lidl or Maxima.
- Full range: Rimi or a large Maxima.
- Camper access: Maxima XXX and retail-park Lidl branches are easiest for campervans.

Supermarkets, and what each one is for
| Chain | Good for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Maxima | The biggest chain, from tiny X stores to XX and XXX hypermarkets. | The widest reach into small towns, and easy parking at the big sites |
| Iki | The everyday format, often the town-centre shop. | Smaller, more central, harder to park |
| Rimi | Full range, strong fresh counters. | Hypermarkets on the edge of the bigger towns |
| Norfa | Cheap basics and a strong presence in smaller towns. | Good value weekly shop |
| Lidl | Cheapest basket, narrow range. | In the larger towns |
Buying alcohol without wasting an evening
- Monday to Saturday: nothing before 10:00 and nothing from 20:00. That is the Alcohol Control Act.
- Sunday: nothing before 10:00 and nothing from 15:00. This is the one that catches visitors out.
Stocking the campervan
- Fill up before the Spit and before Dzukija. Nida and Juodkrante have shops and they are small and seasonal, and the southern forests are thin.
- Buy rye bread, curd, honey and smoked fish here. They are the genuine value.
