The season is June to August, with late May and September on either side. That is when the Spit is open in every sense, the lakes are swimmable, the campsites are running and the light lasts until nearly eleven. From November to March the days are short and grey, the temperature hovers around freezing, and travelling means a heated van and a plan for the water system.

The year by region: how it feels, how warm, how wet

Ticks and mosquitoes are the two summer problems and one of them matters medically. Lithuania is a known tick-borne encephalitis area, ticks are active from spring into autumn, and the forests and lake margins are exactly where you will want to walk. Check yourself afterwards. Mosquitoes are serious around the Aukstaitija lakes and in the Nemunas delta from June into August. September, after the first frosts, is the cleanest month and the mushroom season with it.
